He sang the hymn as he saw through the window the approach of the planet. They went down in shape, the flag fluttering ahead.
He was proud.
I knew the job was bloody. There was a lot of danger when speaking about wild populations. He was happy to be able to save his people, defeat a dictator, bring help.
Inside him, his artificial mind gave orders.
The villages burned. The colonies would return to a state of peace.
In the midst of the flames, a child with a face smudged by smoke was crying. His artificial mind ordered her to be killed.
He resisted. A companion dragged the child by the arm and threw it at the dogs.
That night he spent in prison.
She no longer felt the same way.
What if the colonies only fought for their freedom?
The artificial mind demanded obedience.
He excused himself and returned to Earth.
